A rat's RNG Manipulation guide ^w^

MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN THE SEARCHER TAB WHEN YOU START TO LOOK FOR THE POKEMON

Also you can pick multiple natures in the searcher

"What the hell is Pokefinder?"

Great question!

Funfact! Every seed is the exact same on every file of a game! With the same timing as well. The only difference that Pokefinder shows you when you pick a profile is if the pokemon would be shiny, since the PIDs that are shiny are different based on your TID/SID.

There's different methods depending on what pokemon you want.

"How the hell do you even use Pokefinder?"

Step 1 - Profile Setup

Set up your profile with your information, Gen 4 Tools → Profile Manager → New → Fill in the settings

(If you don't know your unown information, don't worry about it, it's not used for anything other than encountering unowns, you can leave it blank. National dex also doesn't effect the RNG itself in any way.)

Step 2 - Select the uh, option

  • Egg
  • Event
  • IDs
  • Static
  • Wild

Egg, Static, and Wild will result in similar looking UIs.

This page is soooo confusing when you first look at it.

  1. Profile (Make sure you have the correct one selected)
  2. Generator/Searcher tabs - It defaults to Generator, which will show you all of the information when you input a seed, but you first need to locate which pokemon you want, which is done via the Searcher tab.
Generator Tab

This is the tab that you'll put the seed that you have decided to aim for into, and it will show you a list of everything that will generate from the RNG on that seed. This is used while you're doing

NOTES: For the most part, you won't have to fill out the filters in the generator tab exactly how it is in the searcher tab, unless want to quicky find the row of the results table that your target is on. The filters can also be used to try to find the pokemon you have if you're doing the catch/obtain + check stats method.

  1. Make sure you have the right profile set
  1. Lead - What ability the pokemon at the front of your party has, for abilities that effect encounters, like Cute Charm, Static, Synchronize, etc.
  2. Seed - This is where you'll input the seed that you landed on, so it can use that to generate all of the pokemon available on that seed.
  3. Initial/Max Advances - Controls the range of what advances the generator outputs. You can leave Initial at 0, and put Max a little higher than your target advance.
  4. Offset - ....I actually do not know what this does exactly. Don't touch it lol.
  1. Encounter - Encounter type, Grass/Rock Smash/Headbutt/Fishing/etc.
  2. Location - Location, based off of the encounter type selected
  3. Pokemon - Pokemon based off of the location selected. You can leave this on the "-" value to see all pokemon available in the area.
  4. Time - Encounter tables change based off of the time of day, this is very important to keep track of because when you're calibrating your system to land on the right seed, you have to change the clock on your system!
  5. Radio & Swarm - Check these options if you have the region sounds on the radio running, or a swarm active in the area. It will automatically update the encounter table with those pokemon.
  1. Stats - You can filter Searcher results by IVs here. (it's good to set these to have a minimum of some type because Pokefinder will return results with low IVs first) (Click the name of the IV to clear the setting, CTRL+click to set to 31, ALT+Click to set to 30-31, CTRL+ALT+Click to set to 0)
  2. Show Stats - Shows what the Pokemon's calculated stats would be in the results, rather than the IV itself.
  3. IV Calculator - Opens an IV calculator.
  1. Ability
  2. Encounter Slot - Auto-populates based on the selected Pokemon in Settings.
  3. Gender
  4. Hidden Power - Type that the move Hidden Power will have when used by the pokemon, this is determined by IV totals.
  5. Nature
  6. Shiny - Select "Star/Square" unless you're specifically going to transfer and keep the pokemon in Gen 8, where some shiny pokemon have a different animation when sent out into battle than others.
  7. Disable filters - You'll want to check this while you're trying to follow along with the advances in the results.

Searcher Tab

Click the buttons on the picture below to get popup explainations of each item! I also listed everything in a list below the picture, for easy CRTL + F searching, but i spent so long on the image popups thing please click them at least once lol
  1. Make sure you have the right profile set
  1. Lead - What ability the pokemon at the front of your party has, for abilities that effect encounters, like Cute Charm, Static, Synchronize, etc.
  2. Min Delay / Max Delay - Min Delay is the minimum delay to wait between starting the game and loading your save file. To prevent results from showing up that can't be hit, set the minimum to be at least 600. Max delay is how long you're willing to wait for each attempt, I tend not to put this above 2500 if I can help it, because I am impatient.
  3. Min/Max Advances - The minimum/maximum amount of advances that it will search for your target. I would advise starting with a minimum of at least 15 or so?, because you'll be using up some advances while verifying your seed. Max advance depends on how many advances you're willing to go through before getting to your pokemon, so how many calls or chatot cries you're willing to listen to.
  • Some things will automatically advance the RNG upon the game loading, such as the roamers on the map. It's also easy to lose count if you aim for a max number too high. If you're not caring too much about IVs, you'll be able to find a shiny at a pretty low delay/advance, but you may have to set these out further to find ones with good IVs.

When you've filled out your filters to search for the pokemon you want, you'll press "Search" and get results. These are listed in a table.

  1. Advances - How many advances need to be made before that step of the RNG is triggered. This starts at 0, because the very first step has 0 advances before it.
  2. Battle Advances - When you trigger a battle on an Advance, this is how many advances the RNG will be sent forward after the battle. This does not matter 99% of the time.
  3. Call - A letter corresponding to which call dialogue you will get on that Advance. [footnote easy access to the letter/call list]
  4. Chatot - The pitch of the Chatter cry on that advance. A number value, along with L = Low, M = Medium, H = High.
  5. And then all of the information about the Pokemon, these are mostly self explainitory, but some helpful notes may be that the "Slot" cell specifically has the encounter slot and not just the pokemon species, plus the characteristic can be used to speed up the Catch + Stat Check verification process.
  1. Seed - This is the seed that you will need to land on to get the resulting pokemon. To figure out the time calibration for that seed, right click the cell and click "Generate times for seed" [link to below area that shows that box]
  2. Advances - How many advances need to be made before that step of the RNG is triggered. This starts at 0, because the very first step has 0 advances before it.
  3. And then all of the information about the Pokemon, these are mostly self explainitory, but some helpful notes may be that the "Slot" cell specifically has the encounter slot and not just the pokemon species, plus the characteristic can be used to speed up the Catch + Stat Check verification process.
Seed to Time Window

This window shows you what times the seed you're aiming to land on can be hit, giving you all the information needed to put into Eon Timer.

If you want the pokemon's catch date to be the actual day, or a specific date, you'll likely have to test a few different seeds from your results to find one that is available on that Date/Time.

You'll also want to make sure that the time you're having to enter for the Seed is compatable with the pokemon you want to encounter, if going for a wild encounter that changes based on the time of day.

Make sure to select the correct tab at the top, DPPt / HGSS

HGSS
  1. Seed - Should be auto-populated if you opened this via right clicking a searcher result.
  2. Year - only shows results for the year entered. Note that changing to a different year will change the delay, which is one way to flip the delay from even/odd, if you don't mind the catch date being incorrect.
  3. Second - check this if you want to filter the results by the seconds value in the date/time. You don't need to do this, but after you figure out Eon Timer calibration more you may want to in order to lessen the waiting time between attempts. [footnote on more details about that here]
  4. Map - Pops up a map for quick reference, for checking roamer locations.
  5. R/E/L - Raikou/Entei/Lati@s - check the ones present in your save file, and note down what routes they're on here BEFORE YOU SAVE AND CLOSE THE GAME. These are important for quickly checking your seed, and pokefinder will note if advances get skipped. If a roamer is already on a route that the seed would put them on, it might change when you load the game, so it's important to set this to the right locations before you save and start doing the RNG process.
  6. Elm Calls - Shows the letters for the Irwin/Elm dialogues will be for the first 20 RNG Advances of that seed. Auto updates to show which ones are skipped if you have roamers active.
  7. Roamers - Shows where the roamers should spawn on the seed
  8. Date/Time/Delay - FIX LATER, select a row here, it shows what times you can access your seed. the seconds part of the time will be input into pokefinder as the "target second", along with the delay value as "target delay".
  9. Calibration - honestly the most important thing in the whole program. This is where you can see the seeds that would happen around where you're aiming for, and easily check if you hit the correct seed if you have roamers and irwin/elm calls. Delay -/+ is how many seeds around it that it will display, Seconds you can leave at 0 unless you're having issues and need to see a larger range.
  10. Search calls pops up a convienent box that lets you track which irwin/elm calls you get, and automatically finds what seed you're on based on what you input. It also tells you which dialogues go with each letter.

Note for self, Smogon's guide on how to put things in Eon timer is pretty good
